Effective July 1, 2019, the District of Columbia minimum wage increases to $14.00 per hour, up from $13.25.

That’s an additional $120 a month for a worker who’s paid the minimum wage and works 40 hours a week.

The new rate applies to most workers in D.C. In general, all employers in D.C. must pay their workers the minimum wage. (Even if you are an undocumented immigrant, you are entitled to the minimum wage.)

For tipped workers, the base minimum wage increases to $4.45 per hour on July 1. (Employers in D.C. are responsible for paying workers the difference between their base pay and the minimum wage if tips do not make up the difference.)

The D.C. minimum wage will increase again to $15.00 per hour on July 1, 2020, following the District of Columbia Minimum Wage Act passed by D.C. lawmakers in 2016.
