D.C. Workers: How to Sue for Your Scale Wages

In Minimum Wage, Suing Your Boss, Wage Payment

We have excellent news for construction workers in the District.

On August 24, 2018, the D.C. Federal Court declared that workers on government projects can sue for their unpaid scale wages.

Meaning, if your boss is paying you less than the scale wage rate for public projects, you can sue them for wages owed plus damages.

For public or government projects (such as schools, museums, or courts), the majority of workers will earn more than $20.00 per hour.

  • Painters will earn a scale wage rate of at least $34.00 per hour.
  • Carpenters will earn a scale wage rate of at least $39.00 per hour.
  • Electricians will earn a scale wage rate of at least $62.00 per hour.
  • “Labor” workers will earn a scale wage rate of approximately $31.00 per hour, depending on their specific job duties.
